The View

This is a view to the south, the white you can see through the trees was my parent's home, it can be see easily when the trees are bare...kind of neat!

This is the only house you can see from our property(our only neighbor)

Today, May 28, the block crew started and did they work fast! Looks like a lot of block.

This week we finalized the work on the footers, more concrete and tons of gravel.

The Road

The road to the top of the hill is now drivable...in a car. I just hope I don't meet another car. There's really not much traffic on the road!

Digging The Basement

In early April, a very cold day, we planned where the house would be situated. On April 15, 2009 we began digging the basement, fortunately we only hit one small area of rock, and was not too bad to get out.

The job became more difficult as they hit ROCK. With the help of a rock drill the road was made drivable. It is .4 mile and has two switchbacks. The first part is rather steep, but levels off approaching the area where the house will be.

On March 14, 2009 we broke ground...starting with the road. Jimmy & Kenneth began pushing dirt and rock around to build the road.

Britt's Hickory Ridge

We have 20 acres of property in Gate City, Virginia and have dreamed of someday building a house there. The property is conveniently located close to town but high up on a hill with a gorgeous 360 degree view of the mountains. The road to the top of the hill was pretty rough, requiring a four wheel drive. We were unsure if the road could be made accessible...in a car!
After searching through tons of house plans we decided on the Hickory Ridge, and plan to begin in early spring of 2009.
