Porch Ceilings

We decided to use tongue and groove boards on the porch ceilings.

The difficult part was choosing a color.
We used a dark cherry on the front.
We decided to go with a lighter golden oak on the back.

Basement & Porches

Brick pavers complete the front and back porches.

Exterior almost complete.

Basement and generator...our only source of power...so far
September 14-Noah likes the concrete on the porches
The back porch
The front porch

September 3-The concrete trucks made their way up the winding road to the house.
It was a little scary but they made it with no problems.

Basement steps.
They poured the concrete in the garage.

Brick Complete

The detail of the brick around the arched windows.

August 21-the last brick was put into place. Now the big job will be cleaning the brick to give a finished look. It was pretty tricky watching the masons "toss" the bricks up to the second level...without breaking a window.
The scaffolding and framing around the window has to be removed.

The front door finally arrived Friday, just in time to be bricked into place.

Brick nearing completion

August 20-Tomorrow should be the final day of laying brick on the house...weather permitting. It has been a 2 1/2 week process, which is pretty fast. It has been a work in progress for Ed, the water boy, he has had to tote water to the site everyday for mixing the mortar.

Hopefully, the front door will arrive in the morning, to be bricked into place..completing the front.

The lower end of the house.
The back is complete, ready for concrete on the patio. We will finish it off with pavers.

Bricking Continues

August 15-Nine days of brick laying. We are waiting for the front door to arrive so they can complete the brick on the front porch. I had a difficult time deciding on the front door so just got it ordered last week. I think the pressure of making decisions is going to get much more difficult!
The back is almost complete. We decided to extend the back porch into a patio.

The is the garage end. We were pleased with the quoin corners.

Brick Laying

Footers for the patio which will extend from the back porch.

August 5- Brick masons arrived today and began working like busy bees. We decided to make the door on the lower level wider ( garage door size), so we can drive under if we need to...
maybe future home of the MGB or a tractor.

In just three days, they have bricked the foundation of the front porch and part of the right side.
Moving around the back with the brick. Also, began plumbing and wiring inside. We're having a hard time keeping up with the builders in choosing things for the house...we're both procrastinators!!

Ready for Brick

August 4-Ready for brick. After much deliberation and looking at other houses we have chosen Jefferson Wade Tudor, it was delivered today, along with the mortar and sand.
The brick masons are all set up to begin bricking tomorrow. Hopefully, the rain will end soon, we have had 23 days of rain out of the last 33. Where is the drought when we need it!

Framing Complete

July 31-The framing is complete, inside and out. After a week off last week. We are very pleased with their work.
This is a view of the back wall, leading out onto the back porch.

This is a view of the fireplace from the balcony.
The tray ceiling in the master bedroom.
A view from the front. We decided to add the peak on the front porch.

The Porches

July 16- With the back porch all finished they began working on the front porch today.
Tim, hard at work, he only has one speed...wide open.
They angled the garage doors and filled in under the dormer today.
We weren't sure how the roof would look on the porch, but,
Steve, the Master Craftsman, figured it out and we are very pleased with it.
It is my favorite room in the house!

July 15, 2009-View from the back of the house.
The back porch is taking shape, the dormer is in the bonus room
and the roof is almost complete on the back.
Today is Eddie's 30th birthday,
Happy Birthday!!

Windows& Porches

July 10, 2009-They began installing windows today. It has been a while since I have added pictures...too busy I suppose!

Bay window in the kitchen.

Upstairs balcony,looking out the back..

They have also been working on the back porch. We decided to add a "bump out" on the back porch to give a little extra room, (my suggestion!!)

Hide all

Sunday, July 5, 2009

July 3-Lots of progress is being made. It is amazing how much work three guys can do.
It was pretty scary watching them put the wood on this steep side of the house.

The Southern side of the house.

Workers are off tomorrow, to celebrate the 4th
